By and large the idea of skill-based matchmaking is not a bad one, but in the context of Call of Duty it has caused some problems.
Mainly, those players with higher ranks or skill levels found it harder to find a match, and when they did, these players were put up against opponents with high kill-to-death ratios. Curiously, developer Treyarch never acknowledged what the change was, but fans were quick to pick up that something was different. Fans who played Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare presumed it was skill-based matchmaking, and once it became hard to find matches started putting two and two together.

In no way am I trying to argue in my favor to elxploit features, or lack thereof in order for me to lower the median skill level of my oponents. The second is that I am openly biased to keeping skill based matchmaking out of this game, I want to provide to you my thoughts on the subject, and see if the community agrees, or disagrees. The game is RNG and so should the player base.
From the circles, to the bombings, to the flight paths, to the loot drops, not only does making decisions that play into a lucky draw make the game enjoyable, but it also is a tremendous skill equalizer. Not a single player, from the guy who is playing his first match, to the streamer playing their th hour knows where they will have to move next.

Lately i"ve been noticing a theme among complaint threads. How is this proof of anything other than your inability to adapt to the new game? People that considered themselves elite are now being brought down to earth with the new matchmaking system. Of course it couldn"t be them though right? I was pretty good at MW3, however my KD really isn"t much lower in this game.

This seems like a double-edged sword. On one hand, you would essentially remove the people who overuse OP guns because they"re the ones with KDRs so"less skilled lobbies" would have more diversity with weapons, maybe more fairness or at least variety, while keeping the rest quarantined up to deal with each other. On the other hand, anyone who is actually"good" at the game would be having a less than pleasant time dealing with"them" in their sectioned off lobbies, so I"d feel a little bad for them.
I honestly can"t cast my vote for one side or the other in the end. Well, you are right in that if you"re not in the lobbies with the hardcore players, there"s going to be way more weapon variety as the average joe is not going to soley use the Bal and AK every single match and gametype. They don"t go on Youtube for class setups or post on gfaqs. But if there was no SBMM, all the more skilled players would be randomly spread out unless they"re in parties. It just becomes really old when everybody is using them and you have to use them if you want to do well and compete.
See, the only problem is the determining factor on which you base"skill". To be honest, KDR means essentially nothing anymore, it"s just a statistic to gauge arbitrary success. If it"s based on performance in-game, then all it takes is some low level using the"right" gun to have 2 good games enough to bump up his KDR , be put in a lobby with the"good" players, then immediately be crushed because all of the"good" players are using exploits against one another.
