No, of course Destiny’s raids couldn’t work with matchmaking

Never got any of the expansions, so feel free to correct me on things. My argument is that raids in WoW and SWTOR have a form of matchmaking Group Finder that allows people to play a selection of raids from easy to hard difficulty for the older content. I know for SWTOR, the newer raids aren"t included in the Group Finder until later on in the year when people are more geared and experienced with the current expansion. Considering these raids are more complex than VoG and still require people to play their role at a basic level, it"s not like Destiny has to worry about people"s classes considering everyone"s primary method of doing damage is with shooting. Within that raid, you will also get another reward for getting up to a certain point with a Group Finder group. That way, your group doesn"t have to complete the raid unless you folks decide on it. This is how I personally would like to see a form of matchmaking for raids to be implemented.

Destiny"s Lack of Matchmaking Persists Leading Into Year 2

I was eager to see what Luke Smith and the team at Bungie have come up with, and indeed it was a strong showing. Bungie went to great lengths to emphasize and, as much as they were willing at this early stage, to demonstrate a commitment to both solo players and a more narratively engaging, better-told campaign. They also introduced a number of new events in the game world to keep players engaged and entertained.

Edit Unlike story missions and strikes , raids give players only the bare minimum of guidance and objectives and instead challenge Guardians to figure everything out as they proceed. Normal mode focuses on learning the raid"s mechanics, communicating with the team, and strategizing. The hard mode for a raid can be unlocked after it is first completed on Normal mode.

However, this difficulty replaces the Light version for Wrath of the Machine and it"s only accessible while it is the Weekly Featured Raid. Destiny 2 introduced raid lairs that share the same ideas as regular raids by incorporating 6-player cooperative activities but are built to have less encounters and an overall shorter completion time. Raids also have a high likelihood of dropping exotic weapons. Once a Guardian receives loot for an encounter, that Guardian is locked out from receiving any further loot from that encounter until the weekly reset each Tuesday.

For example, if a raid is run on hard mode in a given week before it is run on normal, each loot drop will deliver both the normal and hard rewards together. In Destiny , completing the Weekly Featured Raid along with its associated challenges can yield an extra chance at the basic encounter completion loot in addition to exotic versions of legendary primary weapons that are obtainable throughout the raid as well as Age of Triumph ornaments that can be applied to raid gear.

In the sequel to Bungie"s popular shared-world shooter, the Guardians of Earth have finally met their match with a new villain who"s got his eyes on The Traveler. Though it"s sad to see our valuable Exotics fade into the ether, this turns out to be a blessing, as the next adventure for our characters will bring new challenges, new rewards, and an even greater feeling of satisfaction when succeeding in the next big battle. Raids in destiny matchmaking

Gameplay[ edit ] Destiny gameplay Destiny"s style has been described as a first-person shooter that incorporates role-playing and MMO elements, but Bungie has avoided describing Destiny as a traditional MMO game. For instance, rather than players being able to communicate with all other players in the game or on a particular server — as is the case in many conventional MMO games — Destiny includes on-the-fly matchmaking that allows players to communicate only with other players with whom they are"matched" by the game.

To communicate with other players in the game world, players must use their respective console"s messaging system. A social space on Mercury was added with the House of Wolves expansion, but requires players to go undefeated in the Trials of Osiris Crucible mode in order to access it.

Destiny is not making a big show at E3 this year. Bungie has been mum on the topic, but creative director Christopher Barrett has let a few details slip. Barrett says the raid will start in a public space, most likely in The Plaguelands, the new destination on earth being added in Rise of Iron. Fans generally enjoyed the public space start to Vault of Glass, which meant random players could wander into the area while a raid team was trying to complete the first stage of the raid.

In addition, Barrett also confirmed that the raid will continue to require players to form their own fireteams—there is no matchmaking for the raid. This has been the case for every raid in Destiny and is therefore not surprising, but still disappointing for solo players. Even so, fans continue to commonly request that matchmaking be added in for raids, letting them make their own choice to either enter the endgame activity with a pre-made group or a random group, accepting the associated risks with doing so.

Raid details will most likely continue to stay on the down low, that is unless Bungie suffers anymore leaks on the road to launch. Bungie says it will continue to talk about Rise of Iron throughout the summer as the launch comes closer.
