How to install an Amplifier: Disconnect the battery terminals: Run the power cable from the battery to the location of the amp or distribution block. To read more about running wires, click here If you run it through any sort of sheet metal, be sure to protect the power cable with a rubber grommet, or some other protective device. Be sure you have plenty of slack at both ends of the cable. This will make your life easier, trust me! Be sure you run the power cable away from any RCA cables. Your tube amp might not like the load if you hook up speaker wires to speakers and sub. You can run line level to the sub and then line level out of the sub to your amps.
I was wondering what the benefits are for getting a 4 channel amp vs a 2 channel amp for powering just your 4 speakers. I understand on a 4 channel you can use fader and balance where as on a 2 channel you would probably just have fronts and back fader. Why would you want or even need the balance function? I cannot think when you would have the left side turned up higher than the right side?
Wouldn"t just font and back fader be sufficient? What advantage is there to be able to balance as well. I think the only time ive ever used the balance is to check if a speaker is blown without having to put my ear against it. Probably an obvious question, but Im pretty new to car audio. Reason being is that basically in stereo recordings you will have sounds that play between the left and right channel and also independently from one another. Not having a left and right channel would really screw up your imaging plays a big part in sound quality and your music would not sound remotely how it"s supposed to.

The biggest culprit is road noise, competing with and canceling out critical audio frequencies. As this noise forces you to turn the volume up, you"ll quickly find that your in-dash radio"s small amplifier runs out of steam. The solution is to add an amplifier, dramatically infusing your speakers with plentiful, clean wattage. Parts and Preparation Before removing even one screw or panel from the vehicle, assemble all of the tools and parts you"ll need for the project.
You"ll need Phillips, Torx and Allen screwdrivers of varying sizes, so a universal screwdriver with interchangeable tips is a good idea. Wiring tools include a socket wrench and inserts, combination wire stripper and crimper, self-tapping sheet-metal screws, cordless drill with Philips-bit attachment and rough-grit sandpaper. Installation parts include an RCA cable long enough to reach from the radio to the designated mounting location, insulated crimp rings, insulated T-tap connectors, 4-inch plastic zip ties, 4-gauge power and ground wire, gauge primary wire and gauge speaker wire and inline fuse holder with fuse.
Preliminary Steps Examine the internal fuse values of the amplifier. Purchase a fuse to snap into your inline fuse holder matching this value. This fuse protects the power wire leading through the vehicle, preventing a fire in case of a short circuit. Locate a mounting spot for the amplifier away from foot traffic and seat rails and providing at least 3 inches of space around the unit for ventilation. Locate a wire bundle under the hood that leads from the engine bay into the cabin of the car, and find where it comes out under the dash.

That way you can just poke a hole through the grommet and run your power cable through. Once your hole is just big enough to pass the cable, protect the edges of the hole with some paint or rust inhibitor like POR Once the paint is dry, install a rubber grommet or firewall bushing into the hole to protect your cable from chaffing against the sharp metal edges. Run the power cable through the grommet from the inside of the car with the ring terminal going towards the battery.
As you route the cable inside the engine bay be sure the cable is far enough away from moving engine parts and anything that could pinch it. Caulk any gaps around the inner edge of the grommet if necessary. Leave the power cable disconnected from the battery for now.

Podcasting , Technology Any system is only as good as the weakest link in the chain and audio systems are certainly no exception to the rule. Attaching speakers to your Hi-Fi system usually only requires a few cables. These potential problems are easy to spot with a few simple tests and luckily the corresponding remedies are equally simple. Left and Right Tests In the grand scale of things, getting your left and right speakers mixed up is not a major problem.
Record producers and mix engineers spend weeks mixing and producing an album and as part of the process they will decide where in the mix to place certain instruments. Then try the following two fairly self explanatory tests on your music system. You will need to check the wiring of your system, rewiring where necessary and then repeat the two tests to make sure that both channels are working and in the correct order.
The following diagram shows how to wire your speakers to your amplifier: When you listen to the following test, place your head as centrally as you can between your two speakers; you should hear Winnie coming from the dead centre of your speakers. In this case you are hearing equal amounts of Winnie from both speakers. If it does, ensure that the balance control is in the centre position.
If after checking the balance control, things still sounds one sided, you may have a more fundamental problem with your system that requires investigation or professional attention. This could be as simple as a dirty connection or a dodgy interconnecting cable, or if things are worse it could be a more ingrained electronic or speaker problem. Listen to the following and you should be able to hear the difference for yourself:

November 25, edited Hello there, new here so I hope I put this in the correct place. I got a question about hooking up some amp but haven"t really found a clear answer online in my searching, so I figured this was the place to go. Its a cheap system, but it works for me. I have been running some cheap speakers that I threw in it a year and a half ago. I got them because all of the old ones were blown when my Dad gave me the truck.
Needless to say, they are basically dead. I have been looking into component speakers for my truck for some time now as the general consensus is that they are much better than coaxial speakers. Till this Monday, I have the chance to get two sets of Infinity Reference X component systems for the price of one, so I figured I would go with those. However, I don"t have an amp for them, and It seems like running them off the HU is not the best.
I figured I would buy a 4 channel amp as well to power them. My problem is hooking the amp up.
